(7949) Flood stage, or Flood level
1 - The elevation of the water surface fixed by local usage above which the stream is considered to be in flood. 2 - The stage, established by a Flood Control Service, in which flows go out of channel banks and begin to cause minor damage. 3 - A height at which a watercourse overtops its banks and begins to cause damage to any portion of the river valley. It may be below bankfull stage if structures are located in a floodway.
